How to Use Threads from Instagram
Understanding Instagram’s New App – Threads: A Comprehensive Guide
In today’s digital age, the impact of social media is significant. One app that has recently emerged in this realm is Threads. Released by Instagram, Threads is a new conversation app designed primarily for text-based interactions, but it also supports sharing photos and videos.
What is Threads?
Threads is Instagram’s answer to Twitter. In this social media app, users can follow others, partake in public conversations, and post content. The app creates a personalized social feed, showing posts from people the user follows and recommending content from other creators. Posts can be up to 500 characters long and may contain links, photos, or videos up to five minutes long.
Getting Started with Threads
Using Threads is straightforward, as long as you already have an Instagram account and are logged into the Instagram app. Threads can be accessed on both iPhone and Android devices. To get Threads, visit your Instagram profile page and click the three lines to find Threads, or directly search for the app in the app store. After downloading, you’ll land on the Threads homepage.
Logging into Threads
Upon opening Threads, the app allows you to log into your Instagram account. Users with multiple Instagram accounts can switch between them in Threads. All your Instagram data is transferred to Threads.
Importing Your Instagram Details
When you click your username on the Threads homepage, the app offers the option to import your Instagram username, bio, and name, or you can skip this and set it up later.
Choosing Your Privacy Settings
Once your Instagram details have been imported, you have the option to make your Threads account public or private. With a private account, you’ll have to approve follower requests. You also have the option to follow the same accounts you follow on Instagram.
Understanding the Threads Interface
The homepage of Threads displays various posts from the people you follow or suggested posts. You can search for different users to follow, compose your own post (up to 500 characters long), view your activity notifications, and access your profile page. Your posts and replies appear on your profile page, where you can also edit your profile. Threads provides more settings options for changing your privacy or account settings.
Interacting with Posts
Threads make it easy to interact with posts. You can like, comment, share a post on your profile, or send it as a message. The platform also provides the option to share a post on Twitter. In a move to merge Threads with Instagram, you can also add a post to your Instagram story.
Composing Your Own Posts
Creating a post in Threads involves typing your text and pressing post. There’s an option to add photos from your device. If you wish to post a video, you can do so in the same way as a photo post.
Tagging and Privacy Settings
Threads allow you to tag people using the ‘@’ sign, a common feature in many social media platforms. Before posting, you can adjust who can reply to your post – anyone, only people that follow you, or only people you mention. Privacy settings include making your account private, changing who can tag you, adding hidden words that won’t appear on your account, and blocking profiles.
Threads is more than just a text-based messaging app, with options to post photos and videos. If you’re familiar with Instagram, you’ll find Threads an intuitive and engaging platform.
