How to Get More Followers on Instagram in 2020 - Step by Step Guide
Hey everyone in today's Instagram video, I'm going to show you how to get more followers and attract more followers to your Instagram page and followers that really engaged with your content. The number really doesn't matter if those followers are not really engaging and caring about what you're posting about.
So I'm going to show you some practical step-by-step ways to do that and I've used these methods for a couple of years now and they've got me sometimes up to 2,500 followers a week. So I'm going to show you exactly how I did that and I also have a webinar, a free webinar that goes in-depth in some of the things we're talking about.
I'll put a link to that one in the description, and he also is backed up by a course of over 10 hours of content to grow and monetize your Instagram page. Let's jump in here and the first thing I want to focus on is you have to make sure you have the right profile to start with. So make sure you change your profile to a creator or business because of some of the other things we're going to talk about.
Is going to be requiring that information. So on your profile here, press the three lines and go to settings and make sure you go to account here and on the bottom of the page, you should see a switch to creator or business. I'm already on business, and we're going to use some of the data we get from a business to see what we're doing right and wrong.
But that's the very first thing you should do with your account. The next thing we want to do is jump into your profile and look at your bio, the information on top. Now here's the thing, 90% of people that go through my course or I've reviewed their bio here are not doing this correctly. Here's the problem.
Let's say you spend money or you organically get hundreds of thousands of people come to come to your Instagram page and we're going to look at some of those methods in a few minutes, but the problem is if this top of the page is not set up, right, you're going to lose a lot of potential followers.
There are three really simple things you should worry about. Your profile picture should be specific to what you're talking about. So I have a little film logo here and I'm using this to grow my business as well. So that shows someone that comes in here, mostly filmmakers and film professionals that this is about the film is the right profile about the film.
So make sure your logo is set up correctly and then the name right here. I changed it from my personal name to the first word being filmmaker, because it makes it easier for people to search and find things that are related to filmmaking. So if they look up filmmaker or filmmaking, I may show up in search that's really helpful and then the first line has to be very specific and very short about what this page is all about. This page is about the best, original, and repost in the world of filmmaking. I made it very simple in one sentence, then you'll have a link where you could send people to your business or to your YouTube channel or whatever it may be.
I do change this from time to time when starting out. I recommend not having anything there. You want people to engage with your profile and not leave. So I usually don't put a link in newer pages there. For a while, at least till I get to a thousand followers or so once your profile is set up right now, you have to focus on the content that you post.
So I'm going to show you how I find viral content. So our ideas for viral content. So follow along here, go to the search icon here. And this is the explore page of Instagram. Our goal is for our posts to hit the explore page. I'll show you on my phone, a couple of different examples of when I've done that and the number of followers that comes from that, it could be very significant.
Once you hit the explore page. Let me show you an example here of what happens when you hit the explore page. So this one looks like 72,000 views. I'm going to press BW insights. That's one of the options that you get from using a creator or a business profile that we really need here and if you jump into the post insight and you go down here to reach, you could see from the explore page, 80,000 of the views came from there from hashtags, only 15 hundred.
So here, I know that I need to improve hashtags. We'll talk about hashtags in a minute and some came from home. That's just from the people that follow me about 14,000, but you could see the explore page has a big, big impact and 321 new followers just from this post. Here's another post, this Montgomery 1,415 followers again, because it hit the explore page with 235,000 impressions coming from there.
So this is how you get new followers by reaching people that don't already follow you. So you should really look at the insights on every single post to see where those numbers are coming from. Are they ever coming from the explore page, the home hashtags, or the number of other things that could be on this site in order to find out what could hit the explore page?
Usually on top, of the search icon, I searched for things related to what my page is all about. So in this case, it's about filmmaking. So I'll look up filmmaking here and I'll go to the account tab here to see other accounts that post about the same thing. So, no matter what you're posting about, maybe fitness may be motivation wealth.
You'll go ahead and search that again. Make sure you have a specific niche, a specific topic you're covering because this is going to be really hard to grow a page. If you're not really narrowed down on that topic and let me jump into one of these profiles. I know this is one of the biggest ones, but this is what I could do.
I could click on their post here and I want to see which one potentially hit the explore page for them. So I'm going to look at their average views or 30,038,000. This one has 92,000 views. So I know this will most likely hit the explore page because he has significantly more views than the other type of content they've posted in the past.
So as you could see, that one really stands out. So I would go through and what I want to do is watch what this is all about and try to recreate something similar to that. So in the world of filmmaking, I want to do behind the scenes of something. That's just as interesting as that. This is one of the ways to find content that you know is going to do well.
So you get inspired to create something similar to that, rather than thinking all day of what to post about. So I usually do this for any type of profile that I want to grow on Instagram and the other beneficial thing you could do is this is actually a theme page, meaning they're featuring content from other people, other creations.
So sometimes. I do send a direct message to those people and ask them if I could share their contact and promote them on my page and I do this. This is called reposting, but I don't do this until I get a significant amount of followers. Usually, a few thousand would do and then I use that method to have content all the time.
So I try to post every day when I don't post every day and I focus on other things, this method does drop. So, at the point where I was getting 2,500 followers per week is when I was posting every single day, sometimes twice a day. And I was hitting the explore page all the time. So you got to keep that momentum going once you do get to that point, the next tip is very important because beyond hitting the explore page, you also should try to rank for hashtags and this has been around for a long time. There are plenty of videos about it. I have a lot of videos about it as well, but let me just show you on the computer, the platform I use to find the right hashtags because you don't want to just randomly try to type hashtags every time you make a post. You're going to give up especially if you're trying to post every day and finding good content and creating good content to post.
So what I like to do is use this platform. I'll show you I'll have a link in it, in the description to it as well, where you could go ahead and find your hashtags. Let's jump to the computer. I'll show you that now. Now, this platform is called flick and again, I have a link in the description and an affiliate link in the description to it.
It's one of my favorite platforms to use for hashtags. It does require a paid upgrade after the free trial, but I think it's worth it because he speeds up the process of finding hashtags. So let me just show you exactly how it works quickly. I'll look up the filmmaker. One of the hashtags that I use often and typically tends to make it on the explore page.
Once I rank for this hashtag and you could see the, ultimately this is how hashtags work you want to combine low competition. Meaning not a lot of people are using these. With medium competition and high competition hashtags. So filmmakers took me a really long time to rank four on the explore page for this hashtag is used very often by filmmakers on Instagram.
So I tend to combine these specialty manners, start out. I almost don't use any high competition and stick with medium and low-level competition hashtags. So all you do here is you could either search and see laid it hashtags in low competition. So I just press search to do that and you see open the new tab.
I could go back to filmmaker here and I could go ahead and select all of these, for example, let me select both of these sets and I'll select the 36 hashtags. I'll click that and I could go ahead and copy them to the clipboard or save them to collections. So for example, let me just show you in the sidebar here, you see all of these different hashtags.
I could go ahead and one by one, go through these and reduce because I can't have 36 or 35 hashtags. On each post I usually tend to do 2030 is the maximum. So I'll take some of these off. So now I could go ahead and copy all these hashtags here. Again, I could copy it to the clipboard, put it in the notes app, or use the flick platform here to save it to the collection, and then put those on my post every time and keep improving this process and keep finding new hashtags for each post till I have a really solid set that I could use all the time and typically I put my hashtags as a comment as the first comment, they could also be in your description. It's not that big of a deal, but I don't like my description underneath or the caption underneath the video to be very messy. I want it to be very clear. So I usually put it as the top comment and I tend to rank for hashtags.
The next tip is always to try to utilize the different parts of the Instagram app and the latest updates. I post almost every single update that Instagram has come up with within the last three years. I continued to post those. For example, Instagram reels or Instagram stories are also part of Instagram. So you want to use those two and create content for those as much as you can and they're easier than creating Instagram posts. I even use IGTV for long-format videos. Like this one here. But what you want to do is utilize every update because Instagram as a platform tends to push those updates and rank those a little bit better. So right now it's a lot easier to get a lot of views and a lot of followers using Instagram reels because it's relatively new compared to the other things on Instagram and the last tip is to schedule your content in advance. You could use something called Instagram creator studio. If you're using a computer or other apps like later.com to schedule posts. So you don't think about this all the time. The way I'm able to post every day is either I create PostNet advance and then I go ahead and schedule those for a later time or if I'm finding viral posts, I do the same thing. I don't think about this every day. I usually do all my homework on a Sunday for the entire week. So I recommend you do the same because at the moment you're not consistent on any social media platform. Is the moment that you start declining. So the key to growing on social media, especially something like Instagram, where your content really has a short shelf life.
Usually, you're not going to find content to go viral from a year ago is really day today. So I make sure I have that scheduled. So I don't think about it every single day. Take a look at the description box below this video about everything we talked about, check out the free webinar. If you'd like.
