How To Setup Ring Spotlight

Hey everyone in today's video, we're going to look at the ring spotlight cam, and this is the battery-operated camera security camera. That's best used for things like your garage or back of the house. Now, if you've never heard a ring, they basically make security cameras and they got famous for creating the doorbell camera, the one that goes in front of the house and I have one of those as well, but they make this one that could go into a bank of the house. So I want to put it in the back of the house. What it does is create a spotlight. So it's motion detection. So if someone comes in the back of the house, A spotlight is going to go off and the camera will start recording similar to the doorbell.

One, that one, when someone approaches your front door, it will start recording. So you could see who's ringing your doorbell or who's in the front of the house. But in this video, I want to show you how to set this up on the back of the house. I want to show you how to get the app and I want to talk about some of the security options with this camera and how it works, basically.

This camera is a 1080 HD video camera and he has two-way talk, just like the doorbell cam has and I've used a ton of other outdoor cameras. One of my favorite things about this camera, it has a rechargeable battery and before I had a wire hanging out and it's always raining and I have a plugged-in this, you don't have to worry about any of that.

Is wifi connected it's motion-activated and even has night vision? So it's going to say all the things on the back of it, like infrared night vision, two-way talk, wifi, connected weather-resistant design as an adjustable bracket. So you could face it whichever way you want as HD video and it has a quick-release battery plate that you could charge and I'll put a link to the description, to the best deal that I found on this show. If you want to pick one off, check out that link there, and I'll put a link for the rechargeable battery as well. So if you want to have a couple of them, you can swap them out. Basically, let's go ahead and open the box.

Let's do an unboxing. See what's in the box and then after that, we'll go ahead outside and install that on the back. Got a house.

So this is everything that comes in the box. So you have your mounting bracket where your rechargeable battery, a cord here, and even a drill bit, and a screwdriver is provided for Mount again and this is the camera and the spotlight right here. It's just very small and very lightweight and it's basically going to go into this bracket also very lightweight and it's adjustable here so that you could point it whichever way you want and it comes with this very nice quick-start guide. So I'm going to go through the quick start guide. It's going to tell you how to download the app, where to find the app in the app store, how to set up the device with the battery, and then you could follow the in-app instruction. So I'm going to show you the app as well and how to set it up via the app.

So I went through the user manual and unlike most user manuals, this one's actually pretty easy to follow along. So what it tells you is the very first step is to take this rechargeable battery and you want to charge it. It does not come fully charged, but it does tell you if you want to get set up and you're excited to set this up, you could go ahead.

There is some charge in here, but it does come with this provider cable. You just need the wall outlet here. Go ahead and plug in this USB and charge this fully. So if you want to get started, you could skip that step, but charge it fully before you mounted outside, then you want to take your ring camera right here and you want to open it up.

So on the back, if you turn it to the back here, you'll see this release and if you press and hold and let go right here, it will open up the bank where the battery is going to get installed, and here's your rechargeable battery. You basically just have to insert it again, make sure you fully charge it once you set it up outside, but he simply goes in here and as you can see has two.

So if you buy another one, it's a great way to basically make sure when the wrong one runs out, you could charge the other one. That's typically what I do with cameras and everything else I buy multiple batteries is always a good way to do that.  Things that are wireless like this and then go ahead and close it up here.

So if you have a hard time closing the back right here after you install your battery, just make sure it's just aligned right here on the bottom and then press, and this will going place when it's actually clicked in and is closed. So you can open it again without pressing this. So the next step is we need to download the ring app because the rest of the setup is going to happen on your phone.

So take out your phone. The app is available on iOS and Android. So I'm going to jump into the app store here on the iPhone, and I'm going to search for the ring app and it's the first option here and download the ring app. Then I'll show you how to set it up here. Here's the homepage of the ring app here.

So you'll have to go ahead and create an account. So I'm going to go ahead and press create account set up that account. This process is pretty straightforward. So I'll just go ahead and set up my account. I'll show you the next step. Now in this step, when that account is set up, you'll have to go ahead and check your email and verify the password.

So let me just go ahead and do that right now and now that the email has been verified, let me jump into the app here and the email has been verified. So I'm going to press continue and set up my location. So typing your home address, it's going to find your home address and kind of create a geo-fence around that.

So I'm going to go ahead and do that next. So now you're logged into the app. So the next step is you have to set up your device. So I'm going to click, set up device here and I'm going to see which one I have here. I have a security camera. It's going to give it access to my camera here so I could scan the QR code.

So the code here is on the very back of the box. This is the code wants you to scan. So this is the easiest way to set it up by simply scanning the code so I'm going to go ahead and say, try again here and hold this against my code. And just like that is scan the code and I have the cam battery right here, the spotlight cam battery.

So I'm going to go ahead and press that. So now. It says, where would you like to set it up? Since I put in my address, I have to press continue here and now when this page I'm going to set it on the backyard, that's where I'm going to set it. So you're going to have, choose one of those. Then I choose the backyard.

Insert the battery and wait 30 seconds for the spotlight camera to power on. I've already set it up here and I inserted the battery. So I'm going to press continue and now he says, take the spotlight and press the top button right here. So as soon as I let go, if you could see the bottom is flashing here, so now I can press continue one more time and now I have to give it access to my wifi. So I'm going to press join here and while that's going on, if you have any problem, you're next to your wifi network. So if you're next to your router, If you're having a problem with the connection, that's a way to fix it. But let me go ahead and choose my wifi from this list.

No, I've talked to you, my password here, and I'm going to press continue on the app. So if it doesn't work the first time you do it, just make sure are you typing the correct wifi password, and then you should get this page where he says success to spotlight cam is set up and ready to protect your home here and I'm going to press continue and the backyard is updating. So this actually is updating. That's why this is going to keep flashing here. That's okay. If it's flashing, that means it's updating press continue one more time and when you're ready to install, there is an actual video here where it shows you how to install, or you can just go ahead and skip the physical installation right now.

I'm going to go ahead and skip it and it says internet connection. Test, bring your spotlight to a place where you plan to install that impressive start. So take this where you want to make sure the connection between your wifi, your router, and the ring light here. That ring camera is good, but press start here is going to do a connection test.

Obviously, I'm not installing it anywhere near here. But you get the idea here by pressing test after you take it to the place where you want to install it and if he tells you that you have a weak signal, go ahead and learn more about it. It's going to give you some ways to optimize your signal and eventually you're going to come to this page here, where it's going to show you the distance that you want to cover.

So minimum or maximum, depending on how you have a setup. But I usually like to go to the maximum with these kinds of,  cameras and I'm going to press continue at the bottom. It says, turns on the light when the backyard detects motion at night, I do want to do that. So I'm going to make sure that's on and I'm going to press continue here and then motion frequency.

How often do you want to get a notification? I'm going to start with standard and see. Highlight that then I could always go to light or frequent. I'm going to press next. And then you could give access to other people here by just typing in their name here and sending them an invite. I'm going to go ahead and skip this step here and my camera is finally set up on the app. Now the app has a lot more to offer and I'll make a complete video about the app itself and everything it has to offer. But now that your camera is set up, you could click it and you could see where the battery is. Again, in the beginning, I didn't charge it fully.

So it's about a third of the way. Underneath the battery, you could press light and it's going to turn on the lights right here. If you want it to do that with the app and then underneath that you have motion alerts. You could always turn that on or off, and let's look at the live view. So I'm going to press the live view here.

There's a bunch of other options on the bottom of that. I'm not going to go through here, but if you press live view, let's see what we're going to get and there is our live view right there. So if I was to point it this way, Or pointed in front of me. That's basically the live view that you were going to get from the camera when he's outside.

So now let's go outside and let's set up the camera for the very first time. The installation process is actually super simple, have installed cameras like this before, and it does come with a few tools. You could obviously use your own Phillips screwdriver here. It does also come with a drill bed. So you'll need a drill if you were going to concrete or things like that.

So you, you definitely want to use this Mount, so these mounts could go into your wall. There. The screws are provided here, that will go into the wall outside. If you're mounting it outside or next to your garage door, for example, you could go ahead and Mount and in order to connect this to this, this is the process yourself doing that.

I'll show you indoors. So when you're outside, it's an easy process. We'll just have to go ahead and press open on the battery compartment here and this piece has a release right here where you could press down and slide this out, just like this. So then when you actually installed, let me just put this aside.

When you install these two, that process is a lot simpler. You could simply just connect these two and then you're ready to go. There's a screw here. You can loosen this for this to connect to it and then tying it once that's done, that could be done with the provided screwdriver here. So pretty simple process, as far as mounting, it goes, now that you have it completely set up here.

So let's go outside. I'm just going to get a quick couple of shots of it. Installing on the back of my house. So you get the idea of how the installation process goes and if you take a look here, let me just show you on this page. It's going to show you that it needs to be about nine feet above the ground.

That's the best-optimized place for it to be and you want it to basically point in this kind of a direction here with the light pointing straight down and the camera a little bit, tilt it. So this is what we're going to go after when we're mounting it outside. So let's jump outside. So let's mountain just like this and see how it works with the connection outside and that's pretty much all there is to set up the ring spotlight cam. So I set it up in the back of the house. You could obviously set it anywhere else, like the barrage or the front-of-the-house event and it does come with the sticker. So if you're into these kinds of things, you could stick this somewhere in the back of the house, on the window or something.
