How to Recover Deleted Messages on Facebook Messenger
Hey everyone in this Facebook video, I want to show you how to recover deleted messages inside of Facebook messenger and the best place to do that is inside facebook.com and in the built-in messenger here. So go to facebook.com and log into your Facebook account and then I'm going to show you how to get here and try your best to recover deleted messages. This is a lot easier to do on the facebook.com website rather than the iOS or Android app. So that's why I'm going to use it in this video. So let's get to this page first. What you want to do is you want to click this messenger icon here on the top and I'm going to use my actual Facebook account here.
So I'm going to blur some of the things here, but on the very bottom, you should see, see all in messenger to get to this page on my phone right now. So make sure you click that and then you'll come to this page where all your messages are going to be on the side. So I'm going to show you three different things to try.
Each one will give you a little bit of chance to recover deleted Messenger messages. The first one is there is a good chance that the message you're looking for is still here and he's not deleted, but he's hidden from view. How would that happen? Well, Facebook messages sometimes get archived. So if you press this wrench here, There is an option that says archive chats, go ahead and press that and it's going to take you to a whole new world of chats where things have been archived sometimes automatically. Sometimes you did a bike accident. Sometimes you did it on purpose, but they'll show up over here. So go ahead and explore this to see if your messages here. Let me go back. There's another option here called on red chats, click that sometimes you'll see chest and you've never even read that you think you deleted, but they'll appear here and there are message requests. You could press that and see messages here that people try to send you, but they ended up here. Maybe you'd never even see these messages. So those are some options. Seeing if your chats at PO here, then once you do that, go back to all chats and this search messenger for something you remember from the chats.
So yeah. For example, let's say you remember the word fun, go ahead and type that in and you'll see the word fond that appears in every message that was sent that is not permanently deleted and maybe it's archived or inside of your messages here and is hidden. So this is basically assuming your message just was hidden.
By accidents and it has not been deleted. So that is the most common way to get your messages that you think you deleted. But if that did not help you, let's move on to step number two. So for step number two, we want to go to Facebook settings to do that. I could be on the same page anywhere on Facebook, press the down arrow here on the top, right.
To get to settings on the bottom. You'll see settings, press that, and here on the settings page, we want to go to notifications here on the side, and let's scroll all the way down to see this section, how you get a notification and we want to click email down here and it's going to show you your email and then you're going to see these two checkboxes here.
These three checkboxes. Now, this is what's happening. Every time you get a message on messenger, there's a good chance that he sends you an email to your primary email if all are selected. So if this checkbox is selected, that's good news. There's a good chance that you will see a notification for the message that has been deleted.
If you haven't like me on there suggested it is more unlikely that the message was sent via email. As a notification, but make sure you jump into whatever email you have in this case. I have Gmail. So I'm going to go to gmail.com, logging into my email, and I'm going to search the word Facebook to see what notifications they've sent me, and hopefully, I could find my message that way. That's the second, most common use case here. So that's why. Included as number two, the third option we'll most likely recover your message if it has not been permanently deleted from Facebook, but it does take a little bit of time, but let me show you that next.
So on the same exact page that I was on right now, the notifications tab, I want to come out and go to your Facebook information, this tab here. So I just want it from here to here and these are the options I have. And I've used this before to recover messages before. For myself. So I wanted to walk you through how to do that.
So download your Facebook information. This tab right here, press view and if you scroll down here, this is all the information that Facebook has saved based on your activity on Facebook. So posts, photos, comments likes, but what we want to worry about is messages here. You see that checked on. So make sure this is checked on.
Now, if you want to speed up this process, make sure you check off everything else you don't care about and if you know, when this message was deleted, you could change the date range. If I do all my data, it's going to take it. All the way back to 2004 or five. Whenever I signed up for Facebook when he first came out and that's going to take quite a while, I actually try to do that before and it took almost a whole day before I got that email, but he did give me all this information archived from my Facebook activities. So go ahead. De-select everything and just go to messages and select messages, and I'm going to leave it to all my data because I'm not really sure when it was deleted and everything else is checked off. I'm double-checking and then you want to press create the file. Now, this only happens once at a time. So once you do press this, you can't do it again right away till this finishes, but I'm going to press create the file. And then if you go to available copies here is going to tell you when you created that file.
So you see this one's pending. This one I tested out before and it was about 500 megabytes and Facebook's going to send you this email. It says, thanks for requesting a copy of your Facebook information. When it's ready, it's going to send you another email where you could download it. So I'm going to pause right here and as soon as I get this email, I'm going to come back and I'm going to show you what to do with it. So Facebook sends me this message. In this case, you only took a few minutes. The one where I download everything took an entire day almost. So now I could go back to the download page and now I have two available copies and these don't last forever.
So it says you only have a few days to download it. So I'm going to go ahead and press download here, and it should be a much smaller file. 51 megabytes compared to almost 500 megabytes on my other download and now I'm going to open that zip file that just downloaded, and I could press this dropdown on their messages and I want to just explore all these different folders to look for messages. So archive threads. Filter even I could press the space bar on this HTML document to see all my messages, even the index file message requests. So make sure you go through all these looking for your messages. You could also go ahead and search this folder here on your Mac or windows here, just to make sure there's not a faster way to get to it, but this is basically everything that Facebook has kept on their server.
So if the message is not here, really. The other options are your best bet. Or you could ask the other person if that's an option to see if they didn't delete it on their side, but this is really all the different ways that you could try to get your messages back from Facebook messenger. I hope one of these options worked for you and you found this video useful.
