How to Light YouTube Videos
I want to show you exactly how I light my YouTube videos. And I want to show you two different sets.
I’m a professional cinematographer, so I light people for a living, but I want to really simplify how you would light a YouTube video and I want to use very budget-friendly lighting. And I’ll put everything we talk about in the description below the video.

Let’s start with this set. I use a technique called three-point lighting to light a YouTube set. That just means I use three different lights, each with its own purpose.
The key light is your primary light. It’s how I would like a YouTube video if I only had one light. Key light should go to the left or right of your camera, at about a 45-degree angle. I use a GVM 800 for this set for all three lights including the key light.
Fill light is used to fill in the shadows created by the key light. Typically, fill light should be a little dimmer as you don’t want to light yourself completely flat (the same lighting for key and fill light)
Then you can backlight. This helps separate you from the background.
You can also use an optional background light to create color on the background.
