Description

Did you know you could batch resize images in Photoshop?

Resizing one image is pretty simple in Photoshop.  You can just select the resize image option in the menu and type your resolution and the photo will be resized.
But in a lot of situations, you'll want to batch more than one image at a time.

The batch resizes option in Photoshop allows you to do that with hundreds of images with one action.

In order to batch resize images, you have to create an action and go through resizing one image while recording the action.  Once you do that, you can repeat that action automatically to resize every image inside of a folder.

How to Batch Resize Images in Photoshop

Hey everyone. In today's Photoshop video, I want to show you how to batch resize, lots of images in one go to any size that you want and Photoshop makes this really easy. I'll show you step by step, how to do it. If you're using a different method or you want to update your Photoshop, I do have an affiliate link with Adobe in the description below.

So you could follow along with me. The first thing we want to do is we want to take all our original images and put them in a folder here and it doesn't matter if you have hundreds, this works the same way. So it would have all of them in this original folder here, and then you'll make another folder called resized.

All our resized images are going to go in here. So all I did here now. Have I just opened this one image here in Photoshop, and this is where we are now. Let me go up here to the window and I want to choose actions and now I'm going to create an action. I'll press the folder option right here and call this resizing and press okay and now inside of that, I'm going to press the plus sign here, and let's say, I want to make these 500 pixels. I'll just name it that and that's the resizing and I'll press record and now everything I do from this point forward is getting recorded so I could duplicate or even do it a hundred times automatically.

Now, all I have to do is come to the image and click on the image size. That's how I would resize one image. So I will take this down to 500 pixels and I'll press okay and now I just have to go to file and save as, and I'm going to find that folder, the resized folder. This is where my image is going to get saved and I have it on JPEG. That's finding this case and then I'm going to press save and if I want to reduce the size here, the quality will reduce it here. But I usually like to leave it on maximum, so I'll press okay. Now at this point, I do have to close this project. So I'm going to go to file, I'm going to press close now on my action panel here, I'm going to press stop and the action has been recorded.

So the image resizing, the saving, and the closing of the project are all part of this action. Now, how do I do this to other images? I'll just go to file, click on automate and batch, and I need to set this to resizing. So that's the option right here and the action right here was 500 pixels. I only have one action right now, but if you had many, you would choose the right one here.

Now, you would have to choose the folder where the images are. So I'll press choose. I'll go to this original folder. I'm going to choose that and I need to choose a destination. So I'll press destination here and I'll choose a folder, and then I'm going to choose the folder, the resize folder here. So I'll go back and choose the resized folder and press okay.

Now, if I go to my folders here, these are the original and I can look inside of the resize folder and I could see all the resized images here and if I open the file sizes on any one of these, I could see that they're 500 pixels right here, which was the size that I chose and depending on how fast your computer is, you could do this to hundreds of images at once.
